Apple Watch Studio Overview

Story

I touched multiple projects during my time at Apple as a UX Designer, but I had the most active role in Apple Watch Studio — the only way to fully customize your Apple Watch online.

Goals

There was a unique opportunity to qualm some of the frustration some Watch customers had with the previous model buying experience. We wanted to enable creativity and allow people to buy multiple Watch Bands

Process

For this Project, I worked closely with a team of engineers, art directors, copywriters, and brand strategist. My individual process for tackling the interaction design of Apple Watch Studio can be heard via direct contact.

Role

Interaction Designer

At Apple, Interns are treated as full time employees and put on real projects. My piece of the Apple Watch Studio pie came in the form mapping out interaction patterns.

Timeline

10 Months (from Summer 2019)

Summer is a really busy time at Apple as the Fall launch of new products is right around the corner. I learned a-lot about hitting harsh deadlines.

Tool-Kit

Sketch, Proton, Principle, Sublime Text, Adobe After Effects Keynote

I worked closely with the Apple design system on this project. The UX team doesn’t have any concrete tools, so I used the tools I knew to get the job done.

Here’s a glance of the UI and interaction work that I presented to my team. A lot of the core elements were used to influence and interact upon the final product. That being said, some elements on mobile were adjusted to simple the end experience.

Project Reflection

My summers at Apple were great and filled with challenging work, but my work on Apple Watch Studio really hit home. Seeing people use the experience in stores solidified my love for interaction design.

Special Thanks

Nothing great was every built by one person. I’m super grateful to the amazing mentors and individual contributors that came together to make this experience awesome for the Apple customer base.
