Beyond Tech

Steve Roden is an American visual and sound artist. He pioneered the lowercase style of music which sounds are amplified to form complex and rich soundscapes. When I arrived to his house, instead of seeing his work of sounds, we were getting introduced to his new line of work where he paints using symbols, numbers, and hidden meanings. The visit that was supposed to help me with the next group project had been unproductive. But it wasn’t a total waste of time. I thought his new style and way of painting was way more interesting than the work he’s done before in my opinion. I’ve always been interested with artworks with meanings behind them. Rather than just a simple flat drawings/painting, pieces with story behind them and with a message. I’ve always been inspired by the works with narrative and Steve Roden just had that.

The role of an artist or designer is one of an Innovator. When you become an artist, you have a responsibility to influence, to define and enrich the life as a person knows it to be. An artist inspires and defines society.

What I discovered is that there is a relationship between the art, the perception of the art by others, and the synergy that develops to recreate this relationship repeatedly in maturing the work. While at the same time, it allows others to see the greater change in the work that helps define art to those around the artist. Artists are at once a creator, an innovator, someone who must find confidence, but at the same time remain humble by the position and constantly wondering whether the work will be understood, while at the same time hoping that others will see the greatness in the pieces that help define the world.
